Ultimo mondo cannibale, the 4k restoration in Venice with Nicolas Widing Refn

25 August 2023

Ultimo mondo cannibale (1977), the first Cannibal-movie in history and the first feature of the Trilogy of cannibals directed by Ruggero Deodato, became a real cult. The movie competing in the competition Venezia Classici in an extraordinary 4k restored version by Minerva Pictures in collaboration with Midnight Factory. Supervised by Lamberto Bava, assistant director at the time, it is a fitting tribute to a true master of genre cinema, who died in December last year. Director Nicolas Winding Refn, expert and lover of Deodato’s cinema, will introduce the film Friday, September 1 at 23.55 at the Sala Giardino. On the same day (at 3.30 pm) he will also hold a masterclass at the conference room Palazzo del Casinò.

Director, screenwriter and film producer, Nicolas Winding Refn is listed, alongside Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg, as one of the most significant authors of Danish cinema and his films have been screened and appreciated worldwide. He won the Prix de la mise en scène for the film Drive at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
