That’s a wrap on “Reading Lolita in Teheran”

11 May 2023

Last shot for the movie “Reading Lolita in Teheran”, based on the bestseller by Azar Nafisi and directed by Israeli director Eran Riklis.

Produced by Minerva Pictures, Rosamont, Eran Riklis Productions, Topia Communications, with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture.

In the two decades following the Khomeini Revolution, while the streets and campuses of Tehran were the scene of tremendous violence, Azar Nafisi had to try one of the most difficult tasks: explaining boys and girls, who were increasingly exposed to Islamic catechesis, one of the most fearsome incarnations of the West: its literature. The result is one of the most touching acts of love for literature ever professed – and at the same time a magnificent mockery towards anyone who tried to ban it.

Directed by award-winning director Eran Riklis (“Lemon Tree”) and written by Marjorie David, the film stars a cast led by Golshifteh Farahani, Zar Amir-Ebrahimi and Mina Kavani.

“I knew that my approach to storytelling – explained the director – that of respect, emotion, dignity, love and responsibility, would always overcome every obstacle. Azar’s world has now become part of my world and I firmly believe that his story must be told now more than ever.”
