Monica Vitti plays Teresa Numa who, during Fascism, leaves her father’s house crowded with too many children and gets involved in a series of events: she changes many times work, becomes mother, wife and, because of the war, widow. She continues her wandering life between different men, prison and asylum.

The film has been restored by CSC – Cineteca Nazionale from the negative scene and column, made available by Minerva Pictures.

Presented during the 79th International Film Festival of the Venice Biennale, in the Venice Classics section, on 6 September 2022.
