Palme d'Or for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival 1995

La Haine

1995 - Drama

Twenty-four hours in the life of Vinz (Vincent Cassel), Hubert (Hubert Koundé), and Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui), three friends from the Parisian banlieue in the aftermath of clashes between law enforcement and civilians, following which a neighborhood boy, Abdel, ends up critically injured due to the violent abuses of the police. The three, filled with anger and holding a gun, contemplate how to seek justice. Three protagonists different from each other, with opposite characters, seemingly irreconcilable. Three different ways of facing life by responding to the challenges of a complex, suffocating social context, full of tension, in free fall.

La Haine has been restored in 4K from the original negatives with the supervision of cinematographer Pierre Aïm and approved by director Mathieu Kassovitz.
