Luca Guadagnino pays tribute to Bertolucci at the 2026 Venice International Film Festival with the documentary Joie de vivre.

31 August 2026

Only a few days to go until the start of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, and we are delighted to be there with Joie de vivre, the highly anticipated documentary directed by Luca Guadagnino and dedicated to Bernardo Bertolucci, presented in the Venice Open – Out of Competition section.

Produced by MeMo Films, Francesco Melzi d’Eril and Gabriele Moratti, with Gianluca Curti and Santo Versace as Executive Producers, in collaboration with Minerva Pictures, Joie de vivre grew out of Guadagnino’s personal connection with Bertolucci and is conceived as a love letter to one of the great masters in the history of cinema, as well as a reflection on his artistic legacy.

Through Bertolucci’s films and the voices of collaborators, filmmakers and leading figures from international cinema — including Martin Scorsese, Jeremy Thomas, James Gray, David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuarón, Catherine Breillat, Debra Winger, Francesca Manieri and Carlo Antonelli — the documentary creates an intimate, collective portrait, exploring the profound impact Bertolucci’s cinema continues to have on generations of audiences around the world.

See you at the Lido!
