Fondazione Prada has chosen to pay tribute to Kleber Mendonça Filho with a special retrospective at Cinema Godard in Milan, and we couldn’t be happier to take part with titles from our catalogue.
January 3, 6:00 PM – Bacurau (2019)
Winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Set in the near future, Bacurau follows a small village in Brazil’s sertão as it mourns the death of its matriarch, Carmelita, who lived to the age of 94. Shortly after, the villagers discover that their community has vanished from most satellite maps. Blending science fiction, western and slasher elements, the film is a powerful reflection on resistance against abuse of power.
January 24, 9:00 PM – The Secret Agent (2025)
Starring the outstanding Wagner Moura, the film tells the story of Marcelo, a man on the run from a dangerous past who seeks refuge in Recife in hopes of finding salvation. After major successes at Cannes, where it won two Palme d’Or awards, and at the Golden Globes with two wins, the film is now officially nominated for the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film and Best Casting. One of the most anticipated films of the year.
January 25, 6:00 PM – Pictures of Ghosts (2023)
Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, this intimate documentary portrays Recife, Mendonça Filho’s hometown in northern Brazil, through cinema, memory, and its urban transformations.
All screenings will be presented in the original language with Italian subtitles.
Join us at Cinema Godard in Milan to celebrate one of the leading voices of contemporary cinema, while waiting for The Secret Agent, arriving in Italian theaters on January 29, distributed by Minerva Pictures and Filmclub Distribuzione, in collaboration with Rarovideo Channel.
