The Ghost (1963), a gothic masterpiece by Riccardo Freda, comes back to life in a spectacular 4K restored version, presented in the Venezia Classici section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. The cast features unforgettable performances by Barbara Steele and Peter Baldwin.
The young and seductive Margaret Hichcock, together with her lover, Dr. Livingstone, devises a deadly plan to poison her husband and seize his fortune. But as their greed grows, something dark begins to seep into their lives. Trapped in an endless nightmare, the two are haunted by the eerie appearances of the victim’s specter.
The restoration, carried out by Severin Films in collaboration with Minerva Pictures, represents a high-level philological and technical effort aimed at returning the original visual experience of the film to the audience. The film will be screened in a world premiere from August 27 to September 6, 2025, as part of the festival.
