I cento passi

The true story of Peppino Impastato (played by Luigi Lo Cascio), a young Sicilian journalist and activist who dedicated his life to fighting the mafia. Born into a family deeply tied to the criminal world—especially through his father Luigi (Luigi Maria Burruano)—Peppino chose to rebel against the system and distance himself from that environment, paying a very high price.

His life is marked by encounters that shape his destiny: the murder of his mafia uncle, Cesare Manzella (Pippo Montalbano), his friendship with the communist painter Stefano Venuti (Andrea Tidona), and his firm rejection of the criminal mindset dominating his homeland. Determined to break the silence, Peppino openly challenges the local boss Gaetano Badalamenti (Tony Sperandeo), publicly exposing his illicit activities and becoming a symbol of courage and civil resistance.

After being showcased in the “History of Cinema” section of the Rome Film Fest, the film returns today in a new 4K restoration curated by Istituto Luce in collaboration with Minerva Pictures, and will be back in cinemas starting December 1, distributed by Minerva Pictures and Filmclub Distribuzione.
