29 September 2025

Minerva Pictures at the 20th Rome Film Festival with a Rich and Curated Line-up 🍿

Minerva Pictures will take part in the 20th edition of the Rome Film Festival with a carefully selected line-up, brought to theaters in collaboration with Filmclub Distribuzione.

In the The Best of section, we will present The Secret Agent by Kleber Mendonça Filho, the most anticipated political thriller of the year, already awarded at Cannes and starring the extraordinary Wagner Moura. Recently chosen as Brazil’s official entry for the 2026 Oscars, the film will be released in Italy on January 29, 2026, with Filmclub Distribuzione.

In the competitive Progressive Cinema section, two remarkable titles will be featured:

Good Boy, directed by Oscar nominee Jan Komasa. An intense thriller with dark fantasy elements, starring Oscar nominee Andrea Riseborough, three-time Emmy winner Stephen Graham, and a surprising performance by Anson Boon.

Nino by Pauline Loquès, presented in competition at Cannes’ Semaine de la Critique and winner of the Rising Star Award for its young lead. A luminous story about the healing power of love and friendship in the face of a sudden diagnosis.

In the Special Screening section, we will showcase Allevi Back to Life, a docufilm directed by Simone Valentini, produced by Twister Film in collaboration with Rai Cinema and Bizart, with the support of Regione Marche, distributed internationally by Minerva Pictures and in Italy by Filmclub Distribuzione. The film intimately and poetically portrays the return to music of renowned composer and pianist Giovanni Allevi after his long battle with illness. It’s a sincere, powerful, and essential testimony that reflects on universal themes such as fragility, pain, rebirth, and love for life.

Also featured is Pontifex, directed by Daniele Ciprì. A profound and intense documentary on faith in the Jubilee Year, blending cinema and spirituality.

STORIA DEL CINEMA SECTION

Minerva Pictures is also proud to participate in the Festival’s Cinema History section with three restored classics, presented in collaboration with Rarovideo Channel and Filmclub Distribuzione:

  • I cento passi (2000) by Marco Tullio Giordana. Twenty-five years after its release, the extraordinary story of anti-mafia hero Peppino Impastato returns, with an unforgettable performance by Luigi Lo Cascio. Winner of the Best Screenplay award in Venice, the film also earned five David di Donatello awards, two Golden Globes, and a Nastro d’Argento. The 4K restoration was curated by Istituto Luce in collaboration with Minerva Pictures and will return to theaters this fall with Filmclub Distribuzione.

  • Il Delitto Matteotti (1973) by Florestano Vancini. An unforgettable film recounting the tragic story of Giacomo Matteotti, featuring Franco Nero, Mario Adorf, Gastone Moschin, Vittorio De Sica, and Damiano Damiani. The 4K restoration was curated by the Cineteca Nazionale – Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in collaboration with Minerva Pictures.

  • L’odore della notte (1998) by Claudio Caligari. Ten years after the passing of one of Italy’s most generous and talented filmmakers, we are proud to present the restoration of this unforgettable noir starring Valerio Mastandrea, Marco Giallini, and Giorgio Tirabassi. The second entry in Caligari’s ideal trilogy (after Amore Tossico and before Non essere cattivo), the film premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival and has since become a generational cult classic. The restoration was carried out by the Cineteca Nazionale – Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in collaboration with Minerva Pictures.

The appointment with great cinema is in Rome, and we can’t wait to share with you these unforgettable stories, now brought back to life thanks to extraordinary restorations!
