Locarno Film Festival: Liliana Cavani receives the Pardo for Lifetime Achievement

18 August 2025

Directly from the Locarno Film Festival, Liliana Cavani receives the Pardo for Lifetime Achievement, a recognition that celebrates one of the boldest and most original filmmakers in European cinema.

On this special occasion, her powerful film “I Cannibali” (1970) returns to the big screen in Locarno. Presented at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes in 1970 and freely inspired by Sophocles’ Antigone, the film is masterfully accompanied by the music of Ennio Morricone. We are thrilled to present a stunning fully restored 4K version, thanks to the Locarno Heritage Restoration Contest and the invaluable collaboration with Cinegrell Film Lab.

The film will be screened in the Histoire(s) du Cinéma – Locarno Heritage section, offering the audience the opportunity to rediscover a visionary work that still resonates with the minds and hearts of today.

For this occasion, “I Cannibali” will also be available for streaming in a few days on Rarovideo Channel, the boutique of auteur, rare, and experimental cinema on Prime Video Channels, thefilmclub.it, and TIMVISION!
